Teaching Programs
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is a teaching affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) – School of Osteopathic Medicine, and has become its urban campus. Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing is fully accredited by the New Jersey Board of Nursing, and students simultaneously earn an associate's degree from Camden County College. The school is the only source of Catholic nursing education in southern New Jersey. The Lourdes Wellness Center's Institute of Wholistic Studies is in partnership with Camden County College to offer the region's first associate's degree in applied science in massage therapy, plus a massage therapy certification program. The Wholistic Living Program is also accepted as a graduate elective at Chestnut Hill College. The School of Nurse Anesthesia at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is partners with Drexel University. This is a 27-month program, granting a master's degree in nurse anesthesia. The hospital is the primary clinical site for the students' clinical rotations. The New Jersey Heart Institute at Lourdes manages a cardiac catheterization lab at Kennedy Memorial Hospital-University Medical Center in Cherry Hill. The Institute also served as consultant to South Jersey Health System in Bridgeton in the development of their new cardiac catheterization lab. Lourdes supplies all staff for these labs, supervises all quality and performance improvement initiatives, and has contractual agreements to take all catheterization emergency cases. All of these labs' policies and procedures are identical to those used at The New Jersey Heart Institute at Lourdes. |

Special Programs
Lourdes operates the Maternal Transport Service, which transports women experiencing labor issues and premature labor to the Level III Regional Perinatal Center. The Maternal Transport Service is the first of its kind in New Jersey, and provides transportation to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center from any hospital in southern New Jersey. Lourdes works closely with the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative in developing this coordinated network of care. Lourdes' Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) neonatologists are on staff at various hospitals throughout the area such as Underwood Memorial Hospital and South Jersey Health System. The neonatologists have a presence within those hospitals and provide outreach education to the nurses at these hospitals. Project H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Program Enrichment) is a leading member of the Camden County Planning Network Committee, which includes more than 40 homeless prevention programs. Project H.O.P.E. staffs the Volunteers of America Althea Wright clinic, and leases the Bergen Lanning Health Clinic, where homeless individuals receive medical care and social services, from Camden County at no cost. |

The charge for the service is $4.00 per car. Senior Citizens pay only $3.00. Visitor parking is located across the street in the Visitor's Parking Lot. The charge is 3.00. |
Professional Affiliations
New Jersey Hospital Association Lourdes is a member of the Greater Camden Partnership (GCP), a public-private collaborative to help revitalize the City of Camden.Lourdes is also an active member of Community Planning and Advocacy Council (CPAC), the organization which plans, advocates and coordinates the County's human services programs of over 400 social service agencies, health agencies, and numerous public and private organizations. Lourdes is a member of the Camden Area Health Education Center (AHEC), which is committed to improving collaborative efforts among health providers to enahnce service delivery and education. The Lourdes teen support program, The Bridge, collaborates with organizations throughout the Camden County area. The program is now provided in more than 50 different schools and communities, and is frequently used as a referral source for a variety of health- and human-service agencies. Currently, The Bridge is facilitating the Camden County Anti-Bullying Initiative for the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. |

Community Outreach & Activites
Osborn Family Health Center: A licensed ambulatory healthcare facility offering primary and specialty care to patients of all ages from the City of Camden and its surrounding municipalities with particular emphasis on combating the high infant mortality rate in the city. Osborn also offers nutritional counseling, patient education, social services and the Reach Out and Read, which encourages reading at an early age. Recognized by the American Medical Association for its outstanding Teen Pregnancy Program. Osborn is also the 1995 recipient of the Philadelphia Health Care Heroes Award for the successes of the Prenatal Program and received an award from the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative for outstanding dedication and service to maternal and child health care in South Jersey. Foster Grandparents Program: This program allows the young and old a chance to grow together. The Foster Grandparents are low-income volunteers aged 60 years and older who offer care and attention to at-risk children and youth with exceptional needs. The Foster Grandparents Program received the Health Research Education Trust (HRET) Hospital Award for Community Outreach in 1992. Helping Hands Program: A volunteer based system of support, which provides non-medical services to adults aged 60 and over. Senior Companion Program: This program offers volunteer opportunities for low-income individuals aged 60 and older. It provides free non-medical assistance and peer support to older adults who are chronically homebound with health limitations and at risk of institutionalization. The Senior Companion Program received the HRET Community Outreach Award in 2002 and the New Jersey Hospital Association Award for Innovative Hospital Volunteer Programs in 1995. Project H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Program Enrichment): This program serves homeless persons residing in the City of Camden by offering street outreach for identification, assessment and health education; primary care and social services, as well as, medical, social and educational services in collaboration with Camden City emergency shelters and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. In 2000, the New Jersey Hospital Association awarded Project H.O.P.E. the HRET Community Outreach Award. Community Health Practice: A free, all volunteer medical and specialty service providing primary and specialty healthcare to the medically underserved, the poor, the under/uninsured and low-income individuals. Childhood Development Services: This program serves infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities; and also supports their families. Services are provided in the home or in a community setting with a team consisting of physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, special educators, social workers, program assistants and family liaisons. Nursing Camp: The goal of the Nursing Camp at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is to introduce healthcare programs to adolescents and address the nationwide, chronic nursing shortage in a unique and creative way. A free nursing camp will host Camden-area students during a one-week session. The Bridge: Founded in 1979, The Bridge is a unique program of support, designed for youth who are trying to change or do things the right way. The Bridge promotes prevention and early intervention to address problems, prepares individuals to exercise authority over important aspects of their lives and has a great impact in the lives of the inner-city youth. Awards and honors include the HRET Community Outreach Award, The First "Maria Award" for Outstanding Community Achievement; NJ Child Assault Prevention Award; NJHA Applause Award; VHA America's Promise Award; 4th Annual Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Peace Award and the Puerto Rican Unity for Progress Award for Unlimited Dedication and Contribution to the Youth. Lourdes Wellness Center: The Lourdes Wellness Center was established in 1979 as the first hospital-based Wellness Center in the United States. The goal of the Wellness Center is to help people become more aware of the choices they can make to improve their lifestyle through integrative medicine and holistic therapies and treatments. The most unique aspect of Lourdes Wellness Program is the emphasis on the spirituality component of wellness. The Lourdes Wellness Center includes the Lourdes Institute of Holistic Studies and has recently implemented an Integrative Medicine program that complements standard medical care with holistic and wellness treatments. The 50 Plus Club: The 50 Plus Club has been in existence since 1988 offering free health and wellness programs, health screenings and health education. The overall goal of the 50 Plus Club is to enhance the well-being of adults over fifty years old, and target the aging population by offering information, programs and activities that maintain or improve their health status while encouraging them to appropriately use services available to serve them. |
