Teaching Programs

The Basic Nurse Assistant Program

The Basic Nurse Assistant program is approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health and prepares students for employment as a Certified Nurse Assistant in various health care agencies including Long Term Care, Home Health and Skilled Nursing facilities.
The program consists of 94 hours of theory and 49 hours of clinical instruction. Satisfactory completion of the program leads to eligibility to take the state competency written evaluation for certification. A graduate of the program will be awarded a certificate of completion.
The 8 week program is currently being offered at Saint Mary of the Nazareth Hospital Center in downtown Chicago and Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines.

Residency Programs

Family Practice: At the Saint Joseph Hospital Family Medicine Program, affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine, we have developed a unique environment to study Family Medicine. Our goal is to train physicians capable of providing comprehensive care of patients and families. We train residents in the true Hippocratic tradition using didactic, peer and clinical education. This translates into an atmosphere that facilitates original thought and intense scientific study.
General Surgery: The Saint Joseph Hospital General Surgery Residency Program welcomes interested candidates willing to continue our tradition of producing motivated, well-trained, board certified surgeons who contribute to the specialty.

The Department of Surgery maintains two large general surgery services as well as Cardiothoracic, Otolaryngology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Neurosurgery Services.
Internal Medicine: Our community-based program provides an excellent environment, which fosters the growth and development of young physicians and prepares them for a successful and rewarding future.
Obstetrics & Gynecology: Our community-based, active clinical department is known for its commitment to medical education. The full-time chairman and 17 salaried (full time, as well as part-time) faculty and several other dedicated teaching attending physicians are responsible for training the department's 12 residents.

Qualified and committed subspecialists provide resident training in the subspecialties of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal/Fetal Medicine, and Urogynecology. More than 90 percent of the department's 31 attending physicians are board-certified. These dedicated professionals work with and supervise the resident staff in caring for hospital and clinic patients.
