We are located on the beautiful Emerald Coast of Florida and have proudly served the needs of our communities since 1974. Consistent with Our Mission and Values, we are dedicated to providing our communities with quality healthcare in a warm and accommodating environment. In 2003, we completed a $46 million expansion and renovation project which included the opening of Okaloosa/Walton Counties first open heart surgery program. The expansion included the addition of five new operating room suites (two cardiovascular, two orthopedic/neurosurgery, and one general purpose suite), which increased the number of OR rooms from seven to twelve. A new outpatient pre-operative surgery area was also completed which now has the ability to accommodate 24 patients in spacious, private enclosed rooms, as compared to the previous 12 small, curtain partitioned bed areas. The expansion also included a new 33-bed, all private room Progressive Care wing, a new 23-bed Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit, a new MRI/Cat Scan Suite, a new dedicated Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, and an additional Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Additionally, the project included the renovation of all existing patient care units and a new exterior facade for the facility. In February 2005, The Cancer Care Center at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center was opened. This $4 million addition includes a 33 private bed unit designed specifically to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families. __________________________________________________ ADVANCED TECHNOLOGYFort Walton Beach Medical Center is now offering potential emergency room patients how long the wait is before they make the trip. Patients can text 23000 with the word ER in the text body to find out the wait time from their cell phone. Electronic Health Record (EHR) – With EHR, access to patient health information is simplified and patient safety and quality improved. Our hospitals have brought numerous clinical components for the EHR on-line through major investments in technology. Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) –The PACS system immediately digitizes images such as X-rays, and other scans including CT, MRI and PET, so they can be stored and electronically viewed on screens anywhere. This enables doctors and other health care professionals to access the images, even remotely, and to compare new images with previous images at the touch of a button. Electronic Medication Bar Coding System (eMAR) – We led a national effort to reduce medication errors by placing this system in all of our hospitals. Bar codes on medications are scanned at the patient's bedside, providing our clinical staff with an effective tool to ensure that the right patient receives the right medication at the right time through the right route. __________________________________________________ Accreditations and CertificationsCERTIFIED ADVANCED PRIMARY STROKE CENTER (JOINT COMMISSION)
