 Description:

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center is the tertiary care facility for San Luis Obispo County – and the only provider of a number of advanced medical services, including neurosurgery and high-risk pregnancy. Sierra Vista also houses the only pediatrics unit and neonatal intensive care unit in the area. As the community has grown Sierra Vista has added many high level services, including one of the most advanced cardiac centers in the County and a comprehensive birth center, which provides a wide range of obstetric and infant services. The Birth Center's dedicated nursing staff has experience in regular and high-risk birth and pediatric care. Sierra Vista also provides patient-centered, family-oriented care for patients with neurological disorders, orthopedic surgeries, spinal cord and brain injuries, stroke and arthritis. Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency. Sierra Vista also serves as The Hospital of Choice for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo athletics.

Candace (Candy) Markwith assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in March 2005. Sierra Vista is the largest hospital and the second largest private employer in San Luis Obispo County. Candy has strong ties to San Luis Obispo County, having been born and raised in the North County as well as raising her children here. She is a veteran hospital executive with nearly 30 years of healthcare experience. Candy began her health care career as a hospital pharmacist and spent seven years at Twin Cities Community Hospital as Chief Operating Officer. From there she went to her first CEO position at Suburban Medical Center in Southern California and has held various other senior management assignments throughout California. Candy earned her doctorate in Pharmacy, graduating cum laude from the prestigious pharmacy program at the University of the Pacific. Candy believes in community service and as such each member of the Sierra Vista management team remains actively involved in a local community or philanthropic organization. Candy serves on the Board of the Economic Vitality Council and gives her time and resources to other organizations throughout the County.
