Prevention of diseases - a system of measures of medical and non-medical nature, aimed at preventing, reducing the risk of deviations from the norm in health and disease, preventing or slowing of their development, reduce their adverse effects.
The types of activities aimed at the improving the health of the population, include:
- Individual prevention counseling;
- Group prevention counseling;
- Hygiene education and upbringing;
- Classes by different kinds of physical training.
Depending on the state of health from presence of risk factors for the disease, or severe pathology at the person, is considered 3 types of prevention:
Primary Prevention - a complex of measures aimed at preventing of deviations in health and disease prevention:
- Measures to reduce the impact of harmful factors on the human body (the improvement of air quality, drinking water, sustainable quality food, the level of psychological stress, rational mode of work and rest, physical activity);
- Promoting a healthy lifestyle: the creation of advocacy system aimed at increasing the level of public awareness about the impact of negative factors on health and reduce their impact; sanitation and hygiene education; reduce the prevalence of smoking, consumption of narcotic drugs; attraction of the population to employment by physical training, tourism, sports, improving their accessibility;
- Measures to prevent of somatic and mental illness and injuries, accidents, disability and mortality from external causes, road traffic injuries, and others;
- Carrying out immunoprophylaxis (vaccination) of various population groups;
- Identify during preventive medical examinations, health hazards, including behavioral, take measures to eliminate them;
- Improvement of individuals and groups which are under the influence of adverse to health with application of medical and non-medical measures.
Secondary Prevention - a complex medical, social, sanitary and hygienic, psychological and other measures aimed at early detection of diseases, prevention of exacerbations, complications, and the transition to a chronic course and a set of measures on prevention of disability and premature mortality.
Tertiary Prevention - a complex psychological, social and pedagogical measures aimed at eliminating or compensation Disability, a lost functions for full recovery of the social and professional status.
- Measures to medical and social adaptation to changes in the patient's health status and forming the right attitude to the changing capabilities and the needs of the body.
- Measures aimed at reducing the impact of risk factors, the preservation of the residual earning capacity and social adaptation, creation of conditions for optimum life support of sick and the disabled.
Attention of the doctors concentrated on:
- Increase in the number of works on the prevention of diseases;
