Dr. Steven I Bott, MD

After having several surgeries, and some pain free recovery room experiences, I know what is possible. No one need suffe...r intense pain when waking up after surgery if the anesthesiologists care and take the time to do it right. Having to experience that intense pain is barbaric and unnecessary. I give Dr. Bott and his team an F. They had all the information they needed to do it right. There is really no accountability for them if they do a terrible job, as long as you don’t die. They will never have to see you again.

I woke up after my recent hip replacement surgery with excruciating pain. Prior to the surgery I had informed Dr. Bott, who was my assigned anesthesiologist, what works for me and what doesn't, as I have recently had 3 similar surgeries. I told him I had wonderful recovery room experiences and that I knew what is possible, and I wanted to wake up without pain. I also told him what pain meds work for me and which didn’t. I asked that any x-rays needed after the surgery be done either before I woke up or when I was free of any operative pain. During this conversation, I found Dr. Bott to be arrogant and dismissive. All that I asked for was ignored.

The recovery room was a nightmare of intense pain with an attendant unresponsive to what I had told them would work well, and my need for having my husband there to help. The attendant yelled at me, in the heat of my pain, what I wanted most, my husband or the morphine? I would never recommend him or his team. He wanted me to have a spinal and lobbied hard for it. I believe what I suffered was a pay back for not choosing to do it his way. It made me wonder if he got paid more for the spinal.
