I had a consult with Dr. Zucker after finding out that I had a aggressive for of breast cancer five years ago. At that... time everything was a bit of a whirlwind, this is why it has taken me so long to leave this review. Dr. Zucker was suggested my my Memorial hospital surgeon. I remember going into the small waiting area with my friend and husband. We were soon shuffled into a room. I was told to undress, when the doctor came in the room he had me stand in from of a blank area on the solid wall. Suddenly I was depleted to nothing but measurements being read off to a 'secretary". I compare this experience to how I imagined women must have felt when being "processed' into a Nazi concentration camp. I was no longer a 38 year old young mother I was numbers. The experience was so heart wrenching that my husband had to leave the room. I was told briefly that I would be getting implants after the double mastectomy of 30 CC. He was sure to point out that the tissue and skin was severely stretched out and they were "misshapen" the mastectomy was scheduled with the vascular surgeon and the plastic surgeon. I left the office in completely depleted and defeated. After my appointment with my oncologist he suggested putting my case in front of a "Breast cancer board" to decide exactly how we were going to treat this so we were all on the same page and we could take considerations from other doctors too. It was on Valentines Day...I did not at all look forward to seeing this man again, however I was new to this process and thought I had no other options You have options! my husband and I showed up there and my oncologists became very annoyed and agitated, I knew his nurse on a personal level and asked her what was wrong with him. She enlightened me that he was angry that the plastic surgeon and the vascular surgeon were not in this meeting. Apparently they had both called and informed his office that they did not deem this as necessary. I sat through the entire meeting and listened to what all of the oncologist, plastic surgeons and vascular surgeons had to say. I was like a sponge...and most of all, all of the sudden I realized I HAD CHOICES. Dr Rotkis and Dr. Downs were a wealth of information and stayed after with me to discussed MY terms and concerns. Within days I went in to both of the doctors and constructed a plan of attack. I got my control back and 2 days before my original double mastectomy was scheduled I called Dr. Zucker and canceled the surgery. I was told by his secretary that I couldn't do that. I said "watch me" he soon personally called me I enlightened him that his choice to not go to the breast cancer forum was a very costly one. I have waited 5 years to tell my story because it has taken me this long to say the words without tears. Please think twice before hiring this man for anything.more details
