I received an incorrect diagnosis. It seems unlikely to me that Dr. Abu-Rustum is so incompetent that he did not know wh...at he was telling me was bull. More likely is that he wanted to coerce me into having surgery I did not need. This I confirmed once I spoke to a colleague who was able to confirm the correct diagnosis--in a phone consult! Since he is chair of the department, I decided not to go with that second surgeon at SK, and found a terrific surgeon who did not aggress me and did not lie to me.more details

This was the worst doctor I have ever had the misfortune to see. If you are considering surgery with him, if he tells yo...u need to remove your uterus, please be sure to get a second opinion. In my support group I met someone else who had surgery with him. She learned _after_ her hysterectomy that she did not have any cancer there. She was of reproductive age with no children. I regret being pressured by this doctor. He picks and chooses what he tells his patient. I did not feel he was looking out for my well-being.more details

Seemed friendly at first, but was quiet and when he did bother to answer a question, his answer vis a vis informational ...questions not precise and his answers about possible treatments were overly brief (you don't have a choice but to do x). In the end I went with another surgeon who was recommended by someone I knew and (as important) was much better at communicating why he was choosing one particular option since, as he put it, there is almost always more than one option.more details

Dr. Abu-Rustum misdiagnosed me. Any doctor can make a mistake, but he insisted that I needed surgery and described all s...orts of terrible scenarios before he even got the most basic test results back. I spoke to my ob-gyn (who had recommended him) who was incredulous at the bad advice Abu-Rustum gave me. My husband was with me and thought he was a bully. (I was too freaked out by what he said to notice.) Flash forward six months, I am alive and well and would not wish Abu-Rustum on any woman.more details
