Dr. Lac T Vu, MD

AVOID this doctor! Dr. Vu is very personable, I will give him that. Very friendly. However, if you care about the health... of your baby and your wife (or yourself for the mothers reading), I highly advise you choose someone else. For 3 months, I told Dr. Vu I felt like my wife had a UTI. I am a registered nurse. Each month we would go there and he'd say, "Oh she's just dehydrated! Drink more water." I thought ok. The only real symptom she had was her urine was cloudy and had a very strong smell. That was enough for me to think ok maybe we'll follow his advice. In the back of my mind I was thinking maybe he's right. However, her symptoms still persisted. I told him 3 times in 3 monthly visits, I think she has a UTI. Still, he said she is probably dehydrated. Never once did he order for a urine culture. Only after she started having fevers at peaks of 103 and flank pain did he finally say ok we'll do a urine culture. Long story short she had become septic and ended up in ICU for several days, had two nurses at her bedside, one ICU one maternity, developed pulmonary edema, started having early contractions, all because of ONE common infection that could have been treated and avoided. The bacteria was found to be ecoli originating from UTI. Our bill at the end of discharge was $76,000. We were insured but still owed over $5,000 for something that could have been avoided. About two weeks after this ordeal we went back to his office. After taking a look at her records, his exact words, "She must have had a UTI for a while", like he had no clue I had been telling him that our last several visits. I was furious, but nonetheless I held my tongue and was cordial. Despite this we gave him another chance. We go to his office on our next appointment day and they tell us he is gone for an emergency c-section. Ok understandable, but no courtesy call to save us the trip from going out there?? That was the last straw and from there we chose another OBGYN who was absolutely amazing. Total opposite from Dr Vu. We actually learned and were educated about our baby and the pregnancy by this new doctor -- instead of a 5min visit with chit chat and vitals signs with Dr Vu. This new doctor ensured my wife had a safe pregnancy and delivery and regularly did a urine specimen. Honestly, if Dr Vu wasn't in such a rush, maybe he would know his patient's a little bit better. And when a nurse tells you "I think my wife has UTI" maybe you should do something instead of give the easy answer "She's just dehydrated". He is an OBGYN. He should know UTI is common during pregnancy. I do not usually write reviews unless I have an extreme positive or negative experience. With Dr. Vu it was the latter, and I urge you to reconsider seeing this doctor. I did not feel like my wife or baby was in good hands with him. He put my wife's life at risk and my baby. Luckily we have a beautiful healthy baby boy and my wife is fine now. Needless to say, we will never go back to him and I highly advise you consider someone else as well. more details
