Dr. Perell is affiliated with Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Franklin Square Hospital Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital and practicing for 43 years
I had Cataract surgery at Northern Baltimore Surgery Center in Towson MD done by Dr,Perell,After the surgery was complet...ed,the anesthetist Dr Mulaikal told me to not to try & get up as my blood pressure had gotten quite low during surgery after a spell he had me sit up but not to stand ,After a bit he helped me off of the table & walked me to a chair,Told my husband to take me back to our friends house so I could get some rest,Which we did,I went to bed & ended up staying there the rest of day,Our friend brought home carry out which I couldn't eat as my stomach just wasn't feeling to great,We went to Dr Perell's office the next day for follow up & removal of eye patch,I could not see out of the right eye,I also told Dr Perell wasn't feeling to go.He was upset that I couldn't see said he never had that happen before, but told me not to worry to go home & get some rest to come back the following Tuesday for another check up to use the eye drops & eye shield which I did, When we got home I went straight to bed,The only thing that I could keep down was Ginger Ale,I tried eating but couldn't keep anything down,Thursday evening 5/19/20 my husband took me to Salisbury Hospital where as they ended up admitting me with blood pressure being 81/42,White cell count was high 14, inflammation of the large intestine early AM of 5/20/20,I was discharged 5/26/20.
My husband had called Dr Perell on Sunday to cancel my Tuesday appointment on his answering machine ,Dr Perell called him early Monday morning telling him to have the Doctor at hospital to call him also that on what ever day I was discharged to come right to his office,He told my husband that he thought I had a blood clot ,I was stunned to say the least I went from good patient to horrible patient scared crap out of me,The day I was discharged 5/26/20 my husband drove me to Dr Perell's office ,Dr Perell told me he set up an appointment with the Retina Center in Owing mills Md for 5/29/20.to see Dr Goldman,I saw Dr Goldman he ran test told me he was sorry was nothing he could do but to go straight to Dr Perell's after we left his office which we did,
When we got to Dr. Perell's office they put me in an exam room ,he came in & had a young man with him,He said the young man was his son & wanted me to know he was born with a bad eye, also his wife & her brother both had a bad eye but all were able to live normal lives,He told me to remember the Good Lord gave us two legs, two arms ,two kidneys & two ear drums so that if we ever lost one we could survive ,I found it very unprofessional, bad taste & down right outrageous that he a Doctor would bring his son into an exam room & then sit there & tell me more or less you loss your sight but your survive ,Not once did he say I'm sorry,All of his staff were there that day,My husband was sitting there stunned,
I found out the he had given me an injection of Ketorolac/phenylephrine which when given does have some nasty side effects which I of course had,On 5/16/20 the day after my surgery when I told him I wasn't feeling well he should have sent me to the hospital or Retina Doctor right then & there more details
Started seeing Dr Howard Perell for eye exam as former eye Doctor was retiring ,Started seeing him around 2014 or 015,...r/>He told me I had Cataracts at that time,On May 9 2017 he told me I had to have surgery to remove
the Cataracts left eye first, wanted to set surgery date for October ,Told him I wasn't really keen on having any surgery as I've never had surgery at any time in my life,I continue to see him,Then on October 5th he told me I really had to have the surgery and wanted to set it up to have it done in October,Told him I just wasn't ready ,as my wife had ;had him do her Cataracts & she lost the sight in her right eye,,He said if I didn't have it done in October he wouldn't have any another opening for surgery til March,My wife told me not to have the surgery to get another opinion ,Against her wishes I saw him again in February of 2018 where again he told me my Cataracts were really getting worse that I had to have the surgery soon,Needless to say my wife really was not happy & insisted I get another opinion or she would be packing her bags,
I finally went to another Doctor at the Azar Eye Dr,Tracy Boss on August 13 2018,After she gave me my exam she said yes I had Cataracts but they weren't to bad and didn't require any surgery at this time,That when they got bad enough to require the surgery she would tell me,Of course I started having my doubts over the whole matter,When it was time for my next exam my wife said if I had doubts to just get another opinion so yes I then went to James & Dyer in Easton Md on September 9 1919,Needless to say after my exam they told me yes I had Cataracts but they weren't to bad and didn't require any surgery at this time,That when they got bad enough to require the surgery they would tell me,
So now I have had three opinions by three different Ophthalmologist.
Dr Perell insisted the Cataracts were really bad & had to be removed,Dr Boss & James & Dyer both say no their not ready to require surgery as their not that bad,
My wife needless to say is really not happy with Dr Perell as now she thinks that she probably never even needed the surgery her self as she could always see better driving at night then me & never had any problems ,I have to wonder if Dr Perell is doing doing surgery that doesn't need to be done my self now ,I have even thought of going to yet another Ophthalmologist for yet another opinion but I think we know what the result of the exam would be ,
I do think that Dr Perell is doing needless surgery now myself,
Thank you more details
