DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! This is long but read... every word. Dr. Garry Weber lost his DPM license for 5 years. I did not do my homework and wish I had because now I am left with deformity on BOTH feet. My foot deformity is the result of surgery performed by Garry Weber, DPM, assisted by Dr. Goddard and the post-op bandaging at CAFAI.
If you have already had procedures, work closely with your insurance company. I was contacted by an investigator with my insurance company who asked me to review claims submitted by CAFAI. I did. YIKES. CAFAI had done a procedure in mid January '14 ( after my insurance had expired) and submitted a claim for that procedure dated November '13 when I did have insurance. Later I was contacted by the DA's office and asked if I would work with them in an on going investigation. I agreed and sent a copy of my medical record showing January procedure and the insurance claim submitted by CAFAI dating the procedure as having occurred in November '13.
I returned to Dr. Weber in June '14 because of pain. But that day he said "It's looking good and coming along nicely. I like to give it a year." (I later learned of the 1year statute of limitations for legal action) Knowing I had always been positive and optimistic, Dr. Weber asked me If I would do a testimonial video. Since he had just given me a "good report" on my progress (though I was still experiencing pain) I agreed. Well, after all, he's the doctor and he knows best. Right? Yes, I made a testimonial video, which I later directed him to remove from the Internet.
At the time of the testimonial, I had not yet realized that my toes were actually DEFORMED as a result of his surgical procedures and the aftercare which is still the cause of pain today. The first surgery, two toes on right foot and both toes are now seriously deformed. Ten days later second surgery two toes left foot. One toe deformed the other torqued and out of line.
While trying to figure out why I was still having so much pain, I had the bright idea to take selfies of my feet because after all, I can only see from the top looking down. That is when I was able to SEE THE DEFORMITY and REASON I was having so much pain. The little toes on my right and left foot are stiff, bent down BELOW the foot plane level, twisted and crossing under the adjacent toes. Today, I am literally walking on the toenails of my little toes. Also, when looking at the selfies I saw that my right big toe was not touching the floor while standing. I was in SHOCK!
For the first time I was seeing my feet from the perspective of the doctors and yet NO ONE had told me the surgery was BOTCHED! It was only after I pressed Dr. Weber that he admitted there was a problem. He then offered to redo the surgery at no charge. I scheduled surgery twice but had to cancel both times due to extreme anxiety. I finally realized I could not let him touch my feet again. I have lost all confidence and trust in his abilities and was now aware of his lack of integrity.
Today, I am experiencing more pain and complications as a result of the deformities caused by CAFAI.
Let there be no doubt, Dr. Weber presents as a nice guy and is a great SALESMAN! Do your own homework. I wish I had. If I had known that Dr. Weber had lost his DPM license for 5 years, I would NEVER have walked into California Foot and Ankle Institute. Having said that, if you believe CAFAI is the right place for you, enter at your own risk.
I hope this has been helpful as you make your decision about who will operate on your feet. more details
