Dr. Edward P Tyson, MD works in Austin, Texas is a specialist in Family Practice and graduated Brackenridge Hospital in 1985. Dr. Tysonand practicing for 41 years
I have been a patient of Dr. Tyson's for over 8 years and have been in full recovery from Anorexia Nervosa for over 3. ...I am also currently enrolled in a Dual Master of Arts in Counseling program to obtain licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselor and have a clear understanding of the therapeutic process and the fundamental components that critical within a therapeutic relationship. I have experienced what it is like to live with an eating disorder and nearly die from it, and have also experienced the level of manipulation and control these diseases have on the minds of someone suffering as well as on the loved ones in their lives. The awful truth is that these diseases take everything from us and override any sense of logic and reasoning which leads to a distorted belief system and an unrealistic view of reality. We are blinded and believe that living a life without our disorder is impossible and for many life is simply not worth living. This means that even the most kind person who wants to help us becomes the enemy and because of his passion it is Dr. Tyson who heroically takes on this role and he does so because he refuses to watch amazing individuals suffer and live in so much pain.
Dr. Tyson is knowledgable in multiple areas within the medical field and is an expert in a area that is looked down upon and pushed away due to its complexity. His treatment approach, compassion and true sense of commitment creates a level of safety where even the most guarded and untrusting individuals begin to open up. Overcoming the pain from my past was the most difficult work I've ever had to do in my life but Dr. Tyson stood by me throughout the entire process. For me, my eating disorder was used as a coping mechanism to help me deal with a childhood consumed with devastating trauma, trauma so severe that the memories became repressed and most were forgotten. He gave me the hope and guidance necessary to face everything I was running from and made it clear that he believed in me when I couldn't believe in myself. He planted the seed that one day I would be able to help others in demonstrating that a life in recovery is indeed possible and introduced me to an entirely different world where I no longer fight distorted thoughts about myself, love the woman I have become, and am no longer a prisoner of an undeserved past. I live a life of resiliency and am full of hope and happiness. Today, I speak of the events in my childhood that were at one time unspeakable and now they have simply become a part of my life story. I hope that this review can serve as motivation and hope for either yourself or your loved one because a life free from the hell you are currently living is in your reach and you can experience the fulfillment and joy that you are deserving of. I hope this can plant a seed just as Dr. Tyson did for me because no one should ever have to live alone with disease that causes so much pain. Thank you Dr. Tyson for all that you do and I hope and pray that with time more medical professionals will emerge who care about their patients as much as you do.
