Dr, Weiss is one of the most egotistical and condescending people I have ever met in my life. My 100 year old grandmothe...r recently had hip replacement surgery and ended up in his rehab unit at West Suburban Hospital. It's very clear that bedside manner is not one of his strong points. It also seems clear that he has very little experience with elderly patients as he treats them and prescribes medication to them the same way he would a 30 year old. My grandma entered the rehab unit completely with it mentally. Even at 100 she still reads the newspaper everyday, writes letters to people, prepares her own meals, speaks clearly and intelligently, etc. Her mental state steadily declined after her first day in the unit. Her first day there she was having full conversations with us and with the staff. Five days later she has no idea where she is, can't form a complete sentence and is just overall confused. She is being given Lasix to help with fluid retention. It occurred to us that she might be being given too much of this drug as we learned from a nurse friend that Lasix can cause really bad side effects in elderly patients. My grandma's symptoms matched everything that our friend told us as far as the negative reactions. We had a review with Weiss about her participation in therapy. He concluded that she was not motivated to improve and therefore she had two days to vacate the facility. He could no longer work with her. When we questioned him about a possible over dose or allergy to Lasix, which affected her overall mental state, he told us that was not possible and that she was 100 years old and we shouldn't expect her to live to 150 years. Completely wrote her off as a human being as she sat there probably absorbing some of that conversation. He had the nerve to tell us that once we have a medical degree then we could come to him with our observations. He basically said that it his problem anymore and that she had to be out of the facility in two days. I couldn't believe it. This guy has no heart at all. He talks down to everyone and acts as if he has better things to do than answer your questions or listen to your concerns. He didn't even acknowledge my grandma once during that review meeting. She was sitting right there and he didn't even look at her or ask her how she was feeling. The more I've researched on him the more I've realized that he's just a glorified sports doctor. Why is he working with elderly patients? Why is he working in the medical field at all if he has such issues dealing with people? This obviously isn't the first case like this. With no help from him, we had her primary care doctor reduce the dosage of Lasix, which she agreed was too high. She extended her rehab stay at the hospital as well. We also requested and were granted a different doctor to tend to her therapy needs. Weiss is no longer her doctor. This guy should not be trusted. He has one of the worst attitudes I have ever encountered in my life. Not to mention his lack of concern for his patients. more details
Should not be working with elderly patients. Horrible bedside manner and completely rude.
