Dr. Andrew Stewart took care of me twice under Empire BC/BS. Charged a fortune. Has an assembly line practice that he pr...etends to complain about. But when my insurance started to run out he became completely indifferent. It's hard to get through to his office. Takes up to 90 minutes or more unless you want to make an appt. Then, bingo, you are in. My appointment had been made. My authorizations were never sent out. Empire called. I called. I called bis office. Many times. It takes about 90 minutes to get through unless you are trying to give them money or an opporunity to make money. His response wasn't to send the auth out. It was to phone me from his car phone, clocking the time (I've spent FOURTEEN MINUTES talking to you!). I see his point. It's more time than he spends with a patient. I fired him. Felt I had no choice. I am looking at a possible knee replacement and he was telling me that not only was I being a pest, I was cutting into his personal time. Excuse me for your 14 lost minutes Andy. I've got a knee I am very worried about, and as soon as he realized my insurance was waning he was in the wind (he referenced a Mercedes) yelling at me. Broke the first rule of the Hippocratic Oath: First, do no harm. The second, in his case, should be:do something; anything. Get your office to perform its duties. It takes five minutes to fax a file or return a phone call. Empire, of their own volition, is looking at this through their Provider Review Board But I sure as hell told them what my experience was.more details
